An opportunity has arisen to join the Infrastructure Management department, within UK/US Secure Communications Airbus Defence and Space on a 12 month internship. The department is involved in a wide range of financial, business, technical maintenance, Supportability, Sustainability and Facilities management activities in support of the Skynet 5 satellite communication network and third party customers. As well as the technical support to the Infrastructure we are also undertaking business improvement, continued service improvement initiatives ongoing statistical analysis on the system performance and sustainability activities to ensure the network is supportable and sustainable until 2022. Monitoring emerging technologies and understanding the impact of these on our current network architecture.

Airbus Defence and Space is a prime contractor for the designing and building of the complete Skynet 5 system and the UK MOD has procured satellite communications services from Airbus Defence and Space up to 2022.

Tasks & accountabilities

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;

·  Entrepreneurship and Small business start-ups methodology and how this can be incorporated into large scale businesses
·  Business improvement and efficiency reviews and implementation best practices
·  Assisting the Supportability Engineering team in department coordination, statistical analysis and support posture definition as well as bid / project support and financial monitoring
·  Supporting the Technical Maintenance and Support team in preventative and corrective maintenance activities for ground station, land and maritime terminals
·  Involvement in the Sustainability Engineering team in monitoring and supporting our ground stations and deployed terminals throughout their designed life
·  Supporting the Training, Technical Publications and Logistics team in training delivery and worldwide logistic coordination and delivery
·  Assisting the Facilities Manager in ensuring the infrastructure is correctly supported.

Required skills

Please note our Internships are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following;

·  Currently studying towards a degree in Business, Engineering or related subject.
·  An interest in telecommunications and working in a technical environment.
·  Systematic, logical and critical approach to work and problem solving.
·  Strong attention to detail.
·  Good written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
·  Good team working skills.
·  An understanding of finance and project management would be beneficial, but not essential.
