Job Description

Start date: 6th July 2020

Location: Filton

To stay on top, Airbus recognises the importance of supporting high-achieving and talented undergraduates. We do this through offering challenging internship opportunities during which your skills and potential are fully maximised.

Our internships give a unique insight into potential career paths within Airbus. They are designed so that you can put your theoretical knowledge into practice and gain crucial industry experience. The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your chances of a future role within the Airbus and should benefit your future studies.

The Fuel and Inerting Systems Domain is part of the Engineering Systems Centre of Competence and is a dynamic organisation that is recognised worldwide as a technical leader in commercial Fuel Systems, with key involvement in all major Airbus commercial aircraft programmes. As part of the team responsible for providing complete Fuel Systems, from concept through to customer support for all Airbus aircraft, you will be at the forefront of these developments.

The Fuel and Inerting Systems Domain is predominantly situated in the UK and is responsible for the architecture, design, aircraft integration, certification and in-service support of all aspects of Fuel Systems and Inerting Systems. This includes Fuel Tank Modelling and Simulation; Fuel Measurement, Management, Control and Interfaces; Ground and Flight Transfer of Fuel; Fuel Jettison; Fuel Tank Inerting; Electromagnetic Hazard Protection; Cockpit Interfaces and Built In Test/Health Monitoring. These areas involve the development of complex architectures including the related computer control systems and fluid systems.

Fuel and Inerting Systems present many technical and business challenges that need to be understood and managed. They operate in a very hostile environment at extremes of temperature and humidity, with the added challenge of intrinsic safety due to the volatile nature of jet fuel. Given that fuel is contained mostly in the wings of modern aircraft, it is not surprising that Fuel and Inerting Systems are a significant factor in aircraft weight, cost and reliability.

The philosophy of the Fuel and Inerting Systems Domain is to have the best systems, people and partnerships, thus becoming a reference for the Fuel and Inerting Aviation Industry. Over time, our new Interns have the opportunity to develop their skills and grow as Engineers. We are keen to have new Interns who want to develop their full potential, and take on challenging roles.

Tasks:

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;

·  Placements will include opportunities in the design of new system architectures, working with Suppliers to develop new equipment, resolving in-service problems, working on cutting-edge research ideas, involvement in business improvement activities as well as working with colleagues in other parts of Airbus to define the best aircraft level solution.
·  Our Interns operate in a very challenging environment, where they will be given a real and valued role within the Fuel and Inerting Systems Team. The Team is running a number of parallel programmes and as such new Interns will get a real insight into the operation of business and one of its more complex and varied systems. Interns will get the opportunity to work in multiple teams to give as broad an experience as possible encompassing system development, cutting edge innovation, and business improvement.

Skills:

Please note, we love your interest in working for Airbus but we do ask that you make only one application. We encourage you to take time to decide which of our exciting opportunities is right for you and then submit an application that best represents you, your skills and experience in connection with the role you have selected.
