Description of the job :
We're looking for a Controls Engineer to join our Satcom Terminal Product Group within Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will work as part of a multi-functional team and will report to the Head of Satcom Terminal Product Group.

The group produces a range of market leading products under the brand name of AirPatrol and SCOT. As part of an ongoing and exciting product development programme, the group requires a Controls Engineer to join a team that is developing Terminals features and performances.

You will be an experienced control engineer with expertise focussed on stabilised platform control systems.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Task & accountabilities :
You will maintain a high degree of technical competency within the Terminals Product group and will manage and guide the existing team in the role of providing creative terminals design solutions and implementing new design concepts that solve complex technical problems and set technical standards in this field.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Help ensure that terminals solutions are correctly implemented
- Create and conduct the associated verification and validation activities
- Develop maintainable terminals oriented skills within the Terminals Product Group to support on-going and future developments

Your role will involve occasional travel for business, expected to be around five days per year and mainly to our site in Lancashire.

Required skills :
- Understand the design of stabilised platforms systems for an inertially stabilised mobile platform
- Experience in the design of Motion control systems
- Experience of control system modelling, analysis and design using MATLAB Simulink or similar
- Familiar with Control system theory such as MIMO, system identification, Mathematical modelling (transfer function), matrix manipulation, PID, pole placement, adaptive control, fuzzy logic, stability analysis, tracking algorithm, axis transformation.
- Experience in Instrument design and interface
- Systems engineering experience capturing system requirements specification and analysis for integrated Mechatronic system (Software, Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical integrated system).
- Knowledge of safety-critical system design
