Description of the job

A vacancy for a Controls System Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

The Satcom Terminal Product Group produces a range of market leading products under the brand name of AirPatrol and SCOT.
As part of an ongoing and ambitious product development programme there are new terminals / antenna systems being developed for 2016/2017.

The Satcom Terminals Products Group requires a Control Systems Engineer to join a team that is developing Terminals features and performances.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

The Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency within the Terminals Product group and will manage and guide the existing team in the role of providing innovative Terminals design solutions and implement innovative new design concepts that solve complex technical problems and set technical standards in this field.

The Control Systems Engineer responsibilities will include (but not necessarily be limited to) the following:

·  Contribute to ensuring that Terminals solutions are correctly implemented;
·  Define and implementation of verification and validation activities associated with these solutions;
·  Develop maintainable Terminals oriented skills within the Terminals Product Group to support on-going and future Terminals developments;

In order to support these activities the Terminals Product group requires a highly competent control systems engineer with expertise focussed on servo based antenna control systems.

This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

Technical

·  Proven control systems engineering experience
·  Knowledge of Satcom communications products and services, as well as networking fundamentals will be a distinct advantage
·  Ability to work closely with the Terminals engineer and the System Design Authority
·  Experience in the definition of and through life development of Terminals Products and/or solutions for terminal's control systems;
·  The role requires proven abilities in the following technical areas:-
·  Ability to design interacting position loop and rate loop systems for best performance
·  Ability to select and specify control loop components, including rate and position sensors, amplifiers, motors etc.
·  Experience in dead reckoning systems is desirable
·  Experience in measuring and optimising control loop performance
·  Ability to unambiguously specify control loop requirements and performance for implementing in software

General

·  Desirable to possess knowledge and application of SysML, Enterprise Architect, Clearcase, Clearquest,
·  Knowledge of Satcom communications products and services, as well as networking fundamentals.
·  Flexible and willing to travel to meet customer and project timescales
·  Must have proven experience in a Compliance and Quality based project organisation
·  Must have the ability to work independently and be an effective contributor in a diversified team
·  Must demonstrate creative problem solving skills.
·  Must work well within a deadline-driven environment
