The skills and knowledge you gain will improve your chances of a future role within the Airbus and should benefit your future studies.

The Lightning Direct Effects (LDE) group is a transnational team within the System Engineering Design Office responsible for providing all aspects of aircraft protection against the direct effects of lightning strikes. This includes a significant focus on protection of fuel tanks and the general fuel system.

The department operates across all Airbus sites, all Airbus aircraft programmes and all aircraft components (wing, fuselage, tail).

The team has far reaching responsibilities from providing reactive support to in service aircraft to keep the fleets flying, to developing the next generation of aircraft designs e.g. preparing the next single aisle aircraft.

Tasks:

During this internship, the activities you may undertake will include;

·  Responsibilities include developing and applying innovative lightning protection solutions to support the ramp up of deliveries, keeping the growing fleets in the air and designing future aircraft.
·  This is done with a strong focus on research & technology, working closely with Airbus Group Innovations, research institutions, industrial partners and the airworthiness regulators. EYDVA are the design authority for compliance to ATA391 regulations.
·  One of the strategic objectives of the department is to develop the Airbus capability to use advanced simulation techniques in the design protection of fuel systems.
·  The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating a lightning protection simulation capability into the team to support the design of future aircraft. They will develop their understanding of how simulation can be used in aircraft design by applying a recently developed simulation capability within Airbus Group Innovations (AGI) and integrating this into Airbus commercial aircraft programmes.
·  This exciting opportunity will develop the individual's software and modelling skills, their understanding of Airbus tools and processes as well as their understanding of the lightning threat phenomena with associated requirements, regulation and protection principles.
·  The successful candidate will be required to provide a link between Airbus and AGI, which will provide invaluable exposure to the business operations and interaction between both partners.
·  They will act as a catalyst for new ways of working supported by key members of the team, which will involve knowledge transfer to others in the department.
·  The successful candidate will join the EYDVA team of specialists based in Filton for 12 months, working in a transnational manner on a daily basis. Hence the individual will learn how to work in a multi-cultural team with the opportunity to visit other sites as part of the internship.
·  In summary the successful candidate will benefit from working at the forefront of innovation by contributing to a strategic Airbus objective.
