Description of the job

A vacancy for a Communication Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth.

Develop and integrate Computing & Communication System/ Sub-system / Equipment / Component / Module matching the required safety, quality and performance levels according to Airbus systems engineering processes and the needs of our customers.

Ability to identify the activities of the development life cycle that are necessary to develop a system/product and provide the level of confidence which is consistent with regulation and program requirements - Define checkpoints and reviews with associated maturity expectation aligned with program phases and gates. Provide sufficient detailed data and information about system elements to enable the implementation consistent with architectural entities as defined in models and views of the system architecture and in accordance with the allocated requirements.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

One or more of the following:

·  End-to-end communications RF system design and development
·  Payload systems
·  Ground terminal system design
·  System design studies
·  RF systems performance analysis
·  End-to-end network performance analysis (capacity, QoS performance)
·  Requirements analysis
·  System specification development
·  System sub-element specification
·  RF System test strategy development and Validation, Verification and Test plan documentation
·  RF Interfaces
·  Functional interfaces with Management Segment, modems and complex antenna systems.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Proven experience in Communications System Engineering,
·  A methodical approach to the work with sufficient commitment and drive to see the task through even where adverse conditions are encountered,
·  Strong analytical skills.
·  Experience of working direct with customers and will be able to demonstrate a capability of presenting ideas and concepts to the customer.
·  An ability to efficiently organise and co-ordinate their work with the ability to provide innovative solutions and to communicate them.

Experience Required:
Work
Mandatory. A proven track record in two or more of the following:
RF system design and implementation, digital and analogue communications, communications protocols, RF system performance analysis, spread spectrum techniques, payload systems design and analysis, system and sub-system specification writing, requirements management and tracing.
Desirable. A proven track record in two or more of the following:
SATCOM systems (spacecraft and/or ground terminals), Military systems (networks and applications), Multiple Access Protocols, DAMA, Modem systems, RF systems.

Tools/ Equipment
Mandatory: PC literate, Microsoft Office.
Desirable: OpNet, HP Advanced Design System, Visual Basic, NetViz, DOORS

Qualifications
Good honours degree in Engineering/Electronics/Science/Mathematics.

Personal Qualities
Team player, organised, communicative and determined with the ability to work on their own initiative.
