Description of the job

Due to growth in the Space sector Airbus is looking for a Software Engineer to join its multi-disciplined team responsible for the development, testing and delivery of satellite ground control system products used for a variety of Navigation, Science and Earth Observation Missions.

In this software engineering role we require a dynamic and enthusiastic person with a strong foundation of software development experience who is passionate about being a part of this exciting field of space and ground system technology.

The successful applicant will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Tasks & accountabilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for developing software tools and applications to support the satellite ground systems engineering team. These software applications are key to the management, control and processing of spacecraft data.

The role involves the analysis of user requirements, software architectural design, software coding, testing and preparation of the related documentation and Software Operations Manuals. It will also involve providing product support including product integration into software systems, product enhancement and anomaly investigation and resolution.

The successful applicant will work as part of the ground systems team but also be able to work independently seeking clarification with the relevant experts and management when required.

The role offers the opportunity to grow and gain knowledge in multiple ground system disciplines and also take on further responsibilities in future. This coupled with the opportunity for mobility within Airbus provides exciting career development opportunities.

While the role is based in Portsmouth some travel for business to various locations around the globe may be required - this could include Europe, USA or Japan and will likely involve one trip annually for 2-3 weeks to support integration activities.

Required skills

We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience:
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related discipline;
- Programming skills to include:
o Linux and Windows;
o C/C++;
- Able to listen, understand and communicate information effectively;
- At home in a technical team environment;
- Comfortable analysing and generating solutions to complex problems;
- Work independently when required.
