Job Description

A vacancy for a Development Engineer (d/f/m) for Optical Instruments has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Friedrichshafen. The successful applicant will join “TL2 Ge Studies Perf & Verification“.
 

The Airbus Division 'Optical Instruments' is Europe's largest manufacturer of Optical Instruments for space applications. We are organized as a transnational unit with sites in Ottobrunn, Friedrichshafen, and Toulouse. As large-system integrator, our group includes all relevant engineering disciplines, and we have the complete end-to-end capability to develop complex space instruments. This starts from early feasibility studies, followed by development, manufacturing and testing phases up to in-orbit commissioning. Our portfolio includes all kinds of optical instruments such imaging spectrometers, LIDARs, high-resolution cameras and interferometers.

Your exciting tasks:

- system architecture for future space instruments with a focus on dispersive and Fourier

  transform spectrometer

- Performance Engineering, including modeling and analysis of instruments, the

  Interruption and verification of requirements

- Analysis of customer requirements, development of concepts and the architecture of optical

  instruments

- Direct cooperation with our project team and our suppliers as well as with customers

  (typically space agencies) and end users (typically scientific and technological Groups).

- documentation and reporting as well as planning of reviews and presentations

Further tasks can be:

- Management of studies on optical instruments for earth observation and scientific missions,  

  including responsibility for budget and timetable, and Coordination of technical activities

- Development of technologies as part of our R&D programme. This can include the support

  of Master students or doctoral students as well as the interaction with the scientists include

- Support in designing our programmatic roadmaps for future instruments

- Support in designing our programmatic roadmaps for future instruments

You offer:

·  Master Degree in Physics or related Engineering.
·  Cross-disciplinary understanding of complex optical systems and their key parameters. Knowledge of optical spectrometers system is an asset.
·  Understanding of key components in optics and photonics
·  Experience in optical instrument performance modeling and data analysis
·  Profound experience with programming tools (e.g. Python or Matlab)
·  English: fluent
·  Knowledge of institutional space business and related industrial processes
·  Structured, customer-oriented, problem-solving and agile working style
