Start: November 2019
During Installation of passenger doors onto airplane fuselages there are quite restrictive requirements regarding gaps and steps. Such gaps and steps on the loft of the airplane are relevant contributors to parasitic drag and noise in the cabin. The necessary adjustments on today’s passenger doors are relatively time-consuming and cumbersome, partly due to the applied design principles for the coupling between door and door hinge. Objective of this master thesis is the development of a coupling between door and door hinge that allows a stepless and simplified adjustment. Hereby the currently valid requirements for certification and available design space for a potential application on existing door systems shall be considered.
Task & accountabilities :
- Description and comparison of existing passenger door systems with special focus on door adjustment (state of technology)
- Creation of a requirement catalogue for the design principle to be developed
... under consideration of physical/technical, production, economic and ergonomic requirements
- Derivation of relevant functions from the requirement catalogue
- Development of design solutions for derived functions with systematic evaluation
- Creation of the space allocation model (CAD) of favorite design solution
- Pre-sizing of key components of chosen design solution
- Final evaluation of developed design principle with regards to requirement fulfillment
- Conclusion and outlook
