Our client is a leading provider of vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries.

They are looking for an experienced Vehicle Technician with emissions testing experience to work within their PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement) - Powertrain test department. This is a permanent role based near Bedford offering a competitive salary and benefits package. The role holder will be predominantly working day shifts - Mon to Friday, 40 hours per week with a possibility of doing occasional shift work.

This role will be responsible for all aspects of portable emissions and fuel consumption testing; from vehicle preparation, equipment and installation, through to testing, formulating and validating test results. The successful role holder will also be responsible for maintaining and calibrating all PEMS related test equipment.

Role Responsibilities:

* Preparing vehicles prior to testing and planning for unforeseen issues
* Performing a variety of tests on tracks, on public roads and on chassis dynamometers driving to various cycles
* Collating test results from various logging equipment and validating approval
* Developing improved systems of work and installation of equipment to the vehicle
* Working to high quality standards and Health & Safety procedures
* Liaise with Powertrain Engineering and work closely with customers
* Methodical and logical approach to all aspects of work
* Working 40 hours per week with the possibility of shift work and overtime
* Some working off site may be required. Including overnight stays in the UK and Europe
* Act in accordance with the behaviours for staff at all times

Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

* Engineering apprenticeship related to motor vehicles (desirable)
* Previous experience of working as a Vehicle Technician with good understanding of basic motor vehicle fundamentals
* Emissions testing and/or instrumentation experience
* Experience with fault finding techniques (desirable)
* Electrical/electronic experience (desirable)
* GCSE grades or equivalent
* Mechanical/PC qualification
* Good communication skills
* Basic IT skills including MS Word and Excel
* Fabrication skills (desirable)
* Flexible approach to work
* Adheres to Health & Safety requirements
* Customer focused
* Detail and quality focused
* Flexibility to travel as and when required
* Full UK driving licence
* Hold a HGV licence (desirable)
