Are you looking for an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and innovative research environment? Our client is seeking a Facilities Technician to join their team and provide essential support to the organisation. As a Facilities Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the facilities and laboratories, enabling the research staff to excel in their work.
Here's what you will be responsible for:
· Supporting the Deputy Laboratory and Facilities Manager and Senior Laboratory & Building Services Technician in operational processes.
· Taking care of waste disposal, filling liquid nitrogen tanks, and distributing gas cylinders.
· Ensuring an adequate supply of clean laboratory glassware.
· Assisting with equipment movement, meeting room setup, and general maintenance/minor refurbishments.
· Performing purchasing duties and providing advice to end users.
· Assisting with general support duties in other Departmental Buildings, as needed.
Your key responsibilities will also include:
· Accompanying site teams on emergency repairs, major repairs, alterations, and new installations.
· Conducting site surveys to gather information for planning and costing purposes.
· Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety guidelines and promoting a safe working environment.
· Undertaking general maintenance and repair tasks using various materials.
· Taking responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of tools and equipment.
· Maintaining and repairing the fabric of the buildings as needed.
· Coordinating job progress reporting and follow-up actions.
To excel in this role, you should have:
· Experience in a caretaker/porterage or similar role.
· Previous experience in carrying out minor maintenance tasks.
· Familiarity with the use and hazards of liquid nitrogen and other gases.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff and visitors.
· Strong time management, prioritisation, and organisational abilities.
· Good IT skills and basic knowledge of safe laboratory working.
· A good general education (GCSE level)/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent practical experience.
