We are looking for a laboratory analyst to join our laboratory team. This exciting opportunity has arisen due to an internal 12 month placement, creating a vacancy within the Molecular Biology laboratory. This role is key to ensure we meet the needs of the research plan in an efficient and effective way. The role reports to Research Laboratory Team Leader: Kathryn Hogg.

THE JOB
You will be expected to use your scientific understanding to process and analyse biological samples requiring DNA extraction in accordance with laboratory methodologies and laboratory SOPs to generate high quality data.
The role requires a high standard of organisational skills to prepare the samples prior to usage, in particular locating samples from freezer storage, re-organisation of existing samples to ensure full traceability of these on the laboratory Pro-curo database system and aliquotting the samples in preparation for usage.

KEY OUTPUTS
In this role you will…
* Undertake processing and analysis of biological samples for DNA extraction and PCR analysis according to the laboratory methodologies.

* Ensure accurate data recording of results, QC data and associated animal information and communicate results in appropriate format to internal customers.

* Carry out routine maintenance, troubleshooting of laboratory equipment if required.

* Source, order and maintain stock levels for all consumables required for DNA extractions and PCR analysis and associated activities.

* Communicate effectively between Molecular Biology Research Scientist and other laboratory users and project team to update internal stakeholders on project progress and any issues.

* Maintain an accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebook of all experimental work performed according to WCPN guidelines.

* Maintain an accurate record of all samples collected and processed on the Waltham sample database.

* Carry out work within the laboratory in accordance with HS&E and quality requirements.

* Provide assistance and support to wider laboratory team to ensure the day to day running of the laboratory.

* Re-organisation of the current laboratory freezers to ensure all samples are appropriately labelled and recorded on the pro-curo system.

* Assist in the arrangement of samples requiring external storage.

* Aliquotting of samples in preparation for storage.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Education/experience:
* Must be educated to A-Level standard or equivalent. A higher education qualification, such as a BSc or further education courses, in a scientific discipline is desirable.
* Must have experience of working within a laboratory.
* Experience of processing biological samples for routine analysis is desirable but full training can be provided.
