Salary fees: £28,000 up to £35,000

Job Description

We are seeking a copy editor/designer responsible for planning and designing pages for print production and producing attention-grabbing headlines and able to ensure balance and accuracy in content.

This editor will copy edit, design and package content for print and web applications. Specific skills exercised include copy editing, headline writing, page design, wire copy selection and content editing, page proofing and content selection for web and social media applications.

You will:

* Copy edit and design pages for newspaper and web applications
* Write attention-grabbing headlines and ensure balance and accuracy in content
* Select wire copy and edit content.
* Draws together multiple elements including stories, photos, graphics, illustrations, logos, information boxes, etc. into a cohesive, compelling presentation.
* Suggests and/or selects visual elements and may create secondary graphic elements to company content.
* Reviews copy to ensure that visual elements support the content and to ensure accuracy of grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.
* Be able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Given the nature of the position, this copy editor/page designer works nights and many weekends.

Required Skills & Experience

* Have the news judgement to ensure a compelling, relevant newspaper.
* Design skills should reflect an eye for page hierarchy to ensure an easy-to-read newspaper.
* Have a dual skill set in both newspaper design and copy editing
* Significant knowledge and understanding of grammar and style
* Be a true multitask, able to handle curve balls on hard deadlines
* Have experience with layout software, preferably Adobe In Design
* Be able to generate and implement creative ideas swiftly
* Be a true team player, able to interact proactively and productively with colleagues
* Examples of design and editing work will be required and reviewed.
* At least two years newspaper experienced required.
