Adecco are proud to be recruiting on behalf of Cheshire Constabulary for an Assistant Accountant to join there team initially on a 3 month basis.

Based in their Winsford HQ building, this is a exciting public sector opportunity based in the heart of the police force.

Working hours are Mon-Fri, 37 hours per week.

Scope:

Assist in the preparation of annual statutory accounts to ensure they are produced in accordance with the Accounts and Audit Regulations and the CIPFA Code of Practice.

Undertake research to assist in the provision of financial content of reports, to facilitate informed decision making.

Lead on financial compliance, ensuring accuracy and completeness of accounting entries from sub-ledgers (payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable etc.). Provide guidance and training to other team members

Completion of period end processes and resolution of issues

Ensure that key controls and reconciliations are in place to provide confidence in the integrity of data posted to the financial accounts. Ensure that issues and variances are promptly identified, investigated and resolved.

Ensure robust governance is in place in respect of banking set up, systems and transactional activity; including purchasing cards, credit cards and third party software.

Maintain oversight of internal and external audit actions

Undertake financial audits and reviews of financial processes and procedures

Engage with key stakeholders to understand their business objectives and key controls

Assist with regular testing of system changes and upgrades

Skills and Knowledge:

Knowledge of finance legislation

Knowledge of key financial controls

General understanding of the operation of the general ledger and associated feeder systems, including payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Ability to interrogate an integrated finance system

Ability to complete detailed reconciliations including system control accounts, payroll balance sheet accounts and bank accounts. Investigate variances and recommend appropriate action.

Qualifications:

Educated to Level 4 in a finance related subject, e.g. fully qualified Association of Accounting Technicians or equivalent experience

Experience:

Significant experience in financial management and experience of monitoring and maintaining financial information for both a resource unit and corporate finance with minimal supervision

Significant experience of resolving accounting issues at an operational level

Significant experience of key financial controls and reconciliations
