DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To assist in the keeping of statutory and other records, returns and the recording of valuables and personal possessions.
2. Devise and implement appropriate procedures for the efficient running of the Service ensuring appropriate working and hygienic practices, decency and decorum and the well ordering of the service.
3. To assist in the developing of standard operating procedures for post-mortem and pathology procedures.
4. Maintain all requirements of the licence issued by the Human Tissue Authority relating to the mortuary.
5. To participate in the call out rota system for emergencies.
6. Assist and supervise all visitors, Coroner staff and contractors working at the mortuary.

JOB ACTIVITIES
1. Maintenance of the service for the reception and processing of bodies, including major incidents and disasters.
1. To receive decomposed, verminous and other bodies, and prepare them for the post-mortem including stripping, searching and evisceration.
2. To be responsible for assisting a medical practitioner, as may be requested at a post-mortem including the reconstruction of bodies as required.
3. To ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of the structure and equipment in the mortuary, especially disinfection of the post-mortem room, and other high risk areas and to devise and adhere to a cleaning schedule.
4. To ensure the security and health and safety of all persons visiting and working in the mortuary.
5. To liaise with Coroner, Pathologist, Coroners Officer, undertakers, and other staff, as appropriate.
6. To undertake appropriate procedures for the cleanliness, hygienic practices, decency and well ordering the service. Instruct staff, visitors and contractors on site as appropriate to ensure compliance with adopted practices and codes if conduct.
7. To liaise with the Police Authority and to assist their staff in any investigation as required, including fingerprinting, testing, etc.
8. To render assistance and advice to other local authorities regarding mortuary services during times of sickness and holiday, and to work at other mortuaries as directed.
9. To be available as and when required by Coroners Officers for out of hours duties in the case of emergency. To devise and participate in a call-out system.
10. To sympathetically assist members of the public who attend the mortuary to view bodies.
11. To be responsible for the collection of samples/specimens as directed by the Coroners Officers.
12. To assist in the release of bodies, etc., and appropriate documentation to undertakers.
13. To participate in the clients Performance Management Scheme achieving identified standards/targets and ensuring these are met within the agreed time scale.
14. To operate and utilise information technology as appropriate to the work of the section and participate in the identification of new IT applications that would improve the efficiency of the service.
15. To ensure that these duties and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Policies and Procedures including Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Personnel Policies and Procedures, Health & Safety Policy, etc
