Actemium, an international Electrical Services organisation with a global turnover of €2.8 billion and based in over 40 countries. Our business unit based in Gloucester specialising in Control Panels is looking to recruit a Test Engineer.

The Role

To Test and document a range of bespoke control panels and components; host factory acceptance tests with clients and diagnose any problem that might arise with a control panel. Assisting with engineering, commissioning and building of control systems.

• To produce associated documentation with the testing of a control panel with detail.
• To use test equipment such as a dielectric tester, multi-meter, IR tester etc
• To maintain safe working practices and always adhere to quality control procedures.
• To travel to sites and diagnose then fix issues with control systems.
• To have a good customer relationship and confidence to demonstrate testing under the presents of the end customer

• Accurately read and interpret electrical drawings and instructions, both written and verbal (from the supervisor and other team members), to assemble components and build and wire panels within specified timescales.
• Carry out testing and inspection on finished control panels both on the shop floor and at customer premises in line with approved standards and customer requirements.
• Adhere to and always maintain safe working practices.
• Be able to send a panel to site with 100% confidence that it fits within specification and functions as stated.
• Preform and host Factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests in the presents of end customers
• Adhere to and actively improve (through feedback to the supervisor) quality control processes and test procedures.
• Travel to customer sites to support installation, as and when required.
• To provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.

Desired profile

• Have a NVQ level 3 in Electrical engineering or several years of experience within the control system industry is essential
• An HNC in electrical/electronic engineering is favourable
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in generators, Excitation systems and protection relay testing.
• Hold a current ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment.
• Driving Licence

• Previous control systems experience essential
• Previous experience of interpreting electrical drawings and technical instructions.
• Positive "can do" attitude. With good attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills. With the ability to flexibly and proactively manage changing priorities and work to tight timescales.
• Ability to work productively, efficiently and effectively on own initiative as well as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communications skills must be able to communicate at all levels.
• Able to work extended and/or unsocial hours to the full requirements of the role
• Willing to learn about new systems and move with technology as it progresses
• Understanding about generator control and the tests required for generator control panels will be beneficial
• Programming controllers such as PLC’s and transducers or understanding the operation of a controller will also be beneficial
