Key tasks

Plumber or designee must be check or coordinate with engineering supervisor of Assistant Chief Engineer of how to maintain Ph and Chlorine as the following level:-

Ph: 7.2 – 7.6
Total Salt Concentration (ppm) = <1000
Total Alkalinity ( ppm as CaCO3) = 60 – 120
Total Hardness (ppm as CaCO3) = < 200
Chlorine (ppm as CL) = 1-3

If the Ph is not within the specified range, then adjustment must be made in the following ways:-
Test for the Ph using the test Kit
A) If the PH is found to be high, ie. Alkaline (between 7 – 14), it should be lowered by addition of dry acid (sodium bisulphate). Ensure that the filter pump is running. Then pour about ½ kg of dry acid powder into the pool water. Do not add too much acid at once. Allow the water to circulate for 2 to 3 hours, then test, and add more chemical if necessary. This will prevent wide swing of the pH.
B) If the pH is found to be low, ie. Acidic (between 0-7), it should be raised to the desired range by the addition of soda ask (sodium carbonate) or baking soda (sodium bicarbonates). Add ½ kg of soda ask by sprinkling the powder on the surface of the pool and allow the water to circulate for a few hours. Then test the water and add more soda if necessary

Chlorinator test
A) The maintenance of the correct chlorine residual level is very important because it is a disinfectant. It sterilizes the water so that bacteria are destroyed and algae are controlled.
The chlorination system sterilizes the hypo-chlorinator to generate hypochlorous acid (liquid chlorine) to sterilize the pool water. By adjusting the feed pump, the chlorine production can be varied to suit the chlorine demand and maintain the required chlorine residual level of 0.4 to 1.5 ppm
