Night Porter

As a Night Porter at the Fairmont Empress, you’ll welcome every guest with a smile and a warm greeting to create an unbeatable first impression! The starting pay rate for this position is $14.65 per hour, increasing to $16.02 after 3 months and $18.30 after 6 months, plus gratuities.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Guest Services Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

·  Responsible for the delivery of Guest’s to their room, luggage, messages and any other items for delivery within the Hotel
·  Provides a friendly greeting, using guest’s name and welcome to the property
·  Timely response to special requests
·  Very informative about the all facilities, without being asked
·  Knowledgeable regarding local area attractions and shopping services
·  Offers to hang garment bag and place luggage on luggage stand or in appropriate area
·  Explains safety and security features of the hotel while rooming the guest
·  Inquires about and additional needs that the guest may have
·  Learns guest’s name and uses frequently
·  Offers to fill ice bucket
·  Explains the features and functions of the room including ceiling fans and temperature controls.
·  Gracious acknowledgement of guests at all times
·  Prompt response for assisting departing guests, if not within five minutes then guest is notified of time.
·  Converse with guest while rooming and departing guests
·  Upon check out, offers to have valet car brought to entrance or assist with other transportation
·  Takes responsibility for guest inquiries and problems
·  Performs shoe shine duties when needed
·  Performs pick up and delivery of guest luggage etc,. to and from off-site area
·  Records all deliveries and storage of items efficiently and accurately
·  Unload luggage from tour busses and transport to guest rooms
·  Ensures that the security of the hotel is maintained through participation in the Emergency response procedures and ensure only registered guests and patrons use the Reception Lobby
·  Other duties as assigned
·  Delivers overnight menu requests to guest rooms

  Qualifications:

·  A minimum of one (1) year of recent experience (in the last 5 years) as a Porter or Doorperson, or in a position demanding a luxury standard of constant guest/customer service. Individuals pursuing or having completed a post-secondary education in Hospitality require a minimum of four (4) months' of recent experience as stated above.
·  A valid BC Class 5 drivers’ license (must provide a drivers’ abstract reflecting a history of responsible driving)
·  Comprehensive and current knowledge of local attractions, events, restaurants and transportation information
·  Impeccable grooming and presentation
·  Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and as a  team-player with proven success in relationship building
·  Ability to provide excellent service and exceed expectations
·  Proven ability to solve problems and make decisions in a personable and self-confident manner
·  Proficient in English (verbal and written)
·  Must be able to handle a multitude of tasks in an intense, ever-changing environment while remaining calm and collective
·  Must be comfortable wearing a Bluetooth earpiece
·  Possess Serving It Right and Food Safe Certificates
Note: The position of Night Porter is physically demanding and has a direct impact on the security of our employees and guests.  The successful applicant must be physically capable of performing repetitive work, as well as lifting and carrying heavy loads (average 50lbs). The successful applicant must be comfortable working the majority of the time outdoors in all elements.

Physical aspects of the position include but are not limited to the following: 
·  Constant standing and walking throughout shift
·  Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
·  Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
·  Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramp
·  Physical capabilities has a direct impact on the security of our employees and guests
