JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking to hire an experienced, ambitious leader to fill our leadership pipeline with the desire to grow their leadership skills and take on new roles with expanding scope, impact, and influence. In this role, you will represent MRI function in a larger cross function team and own the MRI schedule. You will lead MRI projects and provide technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to develop MRI conditionally safe implantable Neuromodulation devices from concept to commercialization.

Our MRI development team is facilitating an aggressive, innovative pipeline of new products over the next several years by developing revolutionary processes and technologies to support Abbott's rapidly growing Neuromodulation business.

Accountability this role will have with Abbott:

  • Accountable for the planning and execution of MRI conditionally safe implantable medical devices from concept to commercialization
  • Accountable for conducting research and staying abreast of new MRI technologies
  • Accountable for developing MRI safety test methods
  • Accountable for communicating to cross functional and high-level leadership

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team to develop and own detailed schedules for MRI projects
  • Work with other function groups to develop new MRI designs
  • Develop novel approaches for improving MRI labeling of active implantable medical devices
  • Develop optimal test methods for MRI requirements
  • Create test protocols to prove design parameters
  • Communicate professionally with articles, patents, white-papers or other technical exposition
  • Mentor and train other engineers

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics or an advanced degree or credentials in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience in medical device development, specifically related to MRI interactions
  • Expertise in applying electromagnetic theory to MRI safety
  • Expertise in characterization and verification test design and documentation
  • Expertise in the principals of electromagnetics.
  • Experience with data analysis (MATLAB or similar)
  • Demonstrated contributions to the field of MRI safety through published journal articles and/or conference presentations
  • Experience in mentoring and leading small teams of junior engineers
  • Must be willing to relocate to Plano, TX

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or relevant discipline
  • Experience with MRI safety standards (ISO/TS 10974 and IEC 60601-2-33)
  • Experience in implantable and external, Class II and Class III medical devices.
  • Experience with automated instrument control
  • Experience in high frequency numerical electromagnetic simulations (HFSS, Sim4Life, etc.)
