JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Staff Engineer you lead a team to develop MRI conditionally safe implantable medical devices from concept to commercialization. You represent MRI function in a larger cross function team and own the MRI schedule. You deeply understand the MRI standards and develop optimal test methods for each requirement. You find optimal solutions to complex MRI challenges.

  • Accomplished experience leading and executing the development of advanced electro-mechanical devices from concept to commercialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop MRI conditionally safe medical devices
  • Demonstrated ability to develop test methods for proving safety of medical devices in MRI

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversees creation, test, and analysis of MRI safe designs, including analog and RF circuitry.

  • Extensive experience designing, prototyping and testing RF coils for magnetic resonance imaging (from concept to product, low and high field).
  • Conducts modeling and simulation of design options and topologies.
  • Develop novel approaches for improving MRI compatibility of active implantable medical devices through lead and circuit design.
  • Develop optimal test methods for MRI requirements
  • MR RF and gradient field safety assessment
  • Creates test protocols, manual and automated, to prove design parameters and find design errors.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or an advanced degree or credentials in a relevant discipline/concentration.
  • Minimum of 10+ years' experience in medical device development, specifically related to MRI interactions.
  • Application of electromagnetic theory and circuit design to MRI safety
  • Characterization and verification test design and documentation
  • Embedded systems, RF communication, and electromagnetic interactions and compatibility
  • Analog RF circuit design
  • Expert technical background, including analytical, problem solving and planning skills.
  • Expertise in the principals of electromagnetics.
  • Knowledge of quality standards from any of the following: ISO13485, 21 CF Part 820, ISO900x.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific standards such as the IEC/ISO/BS/EN60601 group.
  • Knowledge of industry-generic standards such as IEC60950 for safety or 47 CFR Part 15 for EMC, etc.
  • Working knowledge of principals of statistics.
  • Experience mentoring and leading small teams of junior engineers
  • Must be willing to relocate to Plano, TX

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or an advanced degree or credentials in a relevant discipline/concentration.
  • Experience with MRI technology, MRI safety standards, and testing in an MRI environment.
  • Experience in implantable and external, Class II and Class III medical devices.
  • Experience with ISO/TS 1094 Joint Working Group
  • Experience with automated instrument control
  • Experience with automated data analysis (MATLAB or similar)
  • Experience in high frequency numerical electromagnetic simulations (HFSS, Sim4Life, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of numerical thermal modelling techniques
  • Working knowledge of IEC 60601-2-33
