Our location in Abbott Park (Lake Bluff), Illinois currently has an opportunity for a Scientist, Analytical Chemistry.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Abbott Diagnostics has an opening for a Scientist, Analytical Chemistry. This qualified and motivated scientist will join a dynamic R&D team and will be responsible for design and execution of analytical experiments toward characterization of proteins, including enzymes. This individual will conceive, plan, design, and conduct advanced studies of as independent contributor, and will interact/coordinate with other groups and functions on project development and improvement. The successful candidate must have strong analytical and quantitative skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a track record of successful independent and collaborative research. 

Responsibilities:

·  Design and conduct bioanalytical experiments to characterize proteins using molecular beacons, fluorescence polarization assays, primer extension.
·  Analyze proteins by HPLC, electrophoresis (gel and capillary), spectrophotometric and immunochemical methods.
·  Develop and execute test method characterizations.
·  Troubleshoot instrumentation and method problems.
·  Participate in cross-functional teams; collaborate with protein fermentation, protein purification and assay development scientists.
·  Evaluate and summarize data using analytical methodologies, interpret results, draw conclusions and recommends options for future experiments to achieve project goals.
·  Present scientific observations at team meetings.
·  Anticipate, recognize and resolve technical problems.
·  Appropriately document experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines, and presents scientific observations at team meetings and internal technology reviews
·  Develop conclusions based on information from multiple sources. 
·  Be responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.  Understand and consistently follow documented procedures.  Actively participate in routine maintenance, lab safety.
·  Prioritize studies and activities to align with project goals and be responsible for timely project completion. 
·  Provide feedback to others and achieve self-improvement based upon feedback from others.  
·  Maintain a high level of professional expertise by staying current with scientific and industry literature, technologies and products.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required:

·  B.S. required in a scientific discipline (chemistry; biology; biochemistry; medical technology or chemical engineering)
·  Minimum one-year relevant experience; 3+ years’ experience strongly desired

Preferred:

·  Familiarity with Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biophysical Chemistry
·  Proven experience with standard bio-analytical methods used to characterize protein biomolecules is required
·  Familiarity with QC test method design and validation for biomolecules
