Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial and support operations in Dublin and shared services in Dublin and Westport. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range ofhealth care products includingdiagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals.Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946.

We are currently looking for a Lean Six Sigma Specialist and the role will involve the following:

Department Objective

·  To ensure that the AIDD Sligo Plant meets the business objectives through the development of best in class Manufacturing Operational Processes.

Primary function

·  Manage all assigned projects to timely completion and deliver cost savings as agreed per project.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

·  Lead projects that result in major business process improvements for AIDD Sligo.
·  Deploy techniques of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) in assigned BEx projects
·  Understand/apply the Lean Six Sigma training to projects.
·  Track and report project results to management, internally and externally.
·  Lead and influence team members that the Lean Six Sigma methodology is the right thing to do.
·  Work closely with Project Sponsor and Business Excellence Manager to continuously review process and to eliminate barriers in projects.
·  Ensure that process improvements stay in place over time.
·  Develop site Culture initiatives to establish and maintain the Lean Six Sigma concepts.
·  Ensure Environmental procedures eg recycling, waste minimizations are adhered to and improvements made where possible.

Environmental Health & Safety

·  Ensure Environmental, Health and Safety standards are met and all EHS regulations and procedures are adhered to.  Foster an awareness of Environmental Health & Safety in the plant and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Supervisory/ Management Responsibility

The position has responsibility for managing several indirect reports across various disciplines to achieve assigned goals.

Additionally, skills in the following area are required;

·  Frequent contacts with Abbott personnel at many levels, Division, Affiliate and other plants.
·  Close contact with plant personnel at all levels

The Business Excellence Black Belt will be required to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills including the following

Education

A Bachelor of Science/Engineering/Quality or a Third level qualification in Business.

This will provide the foundation necessary to understand BEx principles and develop ongoing BEx skills

Experience/ Background

The following items describe the level of experience needed to quality for this

Position:

·  Three years post-graduate experience in a commercial health care manufacturing environment
·  Two years experience of people management/motivation or proven leadership skills
·  Good communication abilities.

This experience is necessary to ensure the necessary skills and problem solving techniques have been acquired

Problem solving

·  The Business Excellence Black Belt is expected to use own initiative in tackling and resolving problems related to assigned projects.

Accountability

·  The BEx Black Belt is answerable and liable for the timely and successful completion of assigned projects

Reporting

·  This position reports to the area Manager.

Scope of Authority

·  The position has a wide scope for decision making within confines of agreed Business Excellence Goals.
·  Supervision/direction is received through one on one meetings with the area Manger and Project Sponsors.
