JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Job Function: EMC Engineer

  • Facilitate a systems-level approach to EMC compliance for new product development and existing product by collaborating with Abbott Electrical and Mechanical engineering as needed.
  • Write EMC Test Plans and Reports based on IEC/EN 61326.
  • Able to set up EMC test equipment and write/maintain equipment operating procedures.
  • Perform EMC testing as required by IEC/EN 61326. Provide guidance to EMC test technician as required.
  • Perform EMC troubleshooting of test equipment and equipment under test as needed, and communicate any EUT performance issues as they occur.
  • Coordinate PCB optimization using EMI software simulations with real time test results in the EMC lab for more comprehensive EMC solutions
  • Perform EMC/Safety assessments for proposed design changes and provide design recommendations to R&D engineers and management

Secondary Job Functions

  • Able to assist with Product Safety testing as required by UL/CSA/IEC 61010 and UL/CSA/IEC 60950.
  • Set up and run on-site environmental chambers as needed, according to pre-approved test protocols
  • Responsible for implementing process improvements, as related to validation of test equipment, facilities, and test software.

General

  • Completes professional level engineering assignments related to EMC and Product Safety. Leads and participates in projects involving the design, fabrication, validation, and manufacture of complex instrument subassemblies, systems or processes.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Perform EMC/Safety Assessments and provide design recommendations to R&D engineers and managers.
  • Interact with external certifying agencies during the creation and maintenance of UL Files and CE Marking Technical Files.
  • Travel as necessary to aid in program facilitation or for training (5%).

Expected Skills/Attributes

  • A proven self-starter with the highest level of integrity in the successful completion of your work.
  • Strong technical background and knowledge of the EMC testing procedures/standards, Product Safety or in Hardware/Software Validation.
  • Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and documentation skills.
  • Pro-active problem solving skills.
  • The ability to work co-operatively and effectively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships.
  • Must be able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups and functions on site.
  • Effectively interface with external certification agencies.
  • Familiarity with EMC and general laboratory test equipment.
  • Ability to adapt and work in a FDA regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the medical device industry is a plus.

Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or closely related discipline with two to three years progressive work experience in laboratory environment, field service, RF, EMC, Safety, Validation and/or with Abbott Diagnostics products.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering.

3-5 years work experience in EMC testing.
