Abbott in Ireland

In Ireland, Abbott employs almost 3,000 people across 11 sites. Abbott has six manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford and Sligo and a third party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. It has commercial and support operations in Dublin and shared services in Dublin and Westport. Abbott serves the Irish market with a diverse range of health care products including diagnostics, medical devices, nutritionals and branded generic pharmaceuticals. Abbott has been operating in Ireland since 1946. 

Nutrition & Nutrition Ltd: Sligo

Abbott established our first manufacturing facility in Ireland in 1974 at the Ballytivnan site in Sligo. With further investment, Ballytivnan transitioned from a manual to fully automated operation, with state-of-the-art automated manufacturing lines. The facility comprises moulding, extrusion and high-speed assembly in a lean operation. Now located in Carbury point, Finisklin, Sligo the Shingo prize winning site is a Class A facility with awards for operational excellence, safety, training and development, as well as employee volunteering. The Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence recognises the site’s journey to continually improve using tools and systems and most importantly a culture of excellence which has delivered sustainable results year on year.

In addition to the manufacturing facility, the site has developed into the Abbott Nutrition Devices Centre of Excellence, with responsibility for all aspects of international enteral pump management.

Also located in Carbury point, you will find the Central Financial Services (CFS) team whose mission is to drive value as a trusted business partner through financial and business expertise, optimized service delivery and overall compliance for Abbott.

  • Process rationalization and standardization.

Within the Abbott organisation CFS are a trusted business partner providing global end-to-end accounting, reporting, and other financial and business services for all Abbott organizations.

Abbott Nutrition Limited opened it’s doors in 2007, in the in Fort Gary, Finisklin, Sligo. This business unit manages third-party manufacturers (TPMs) located throughout the world, which are tasked with producing nutritional products on behalf of Abbott for worldwide markets. Abbott Nutrition Limited manages TPMs in the production of high-quality powder and liquid nutritional products, contributing to the growth and success of infant formula, follow-on, growing-up and medical nutrition brands, such as Pedialyte, Similac, Gain, Grow, PediaSure, Ensure, Enshake and Glucerna. Following the relocation of the Nutrition site from it’s origins in Ballytivnan, the Nutrition Limited team relocated to it’s new base in Carbury Point.

We currently have a vacancy for a Accountantand this role will involve the following:

Primary Function / Goals / Objectives

  • The Accountant is responsible for consulting any SOP’s for any job task he/she may carry out and ensure they fully understand and adhere to the SOP.
  • Ensure month end reporting is carried out efficiently and in line with agreed timetable.
  • Ensure accounting practices are in compliance with Abbott Policy and regulatory policies.
  • Completion of quarterly LBE for submission to Corporate.
  • Completion of annual consolidated entity planning pack
  • Critically review departmental overheads as designated by Controller.  Liaise with relevant department managers to ensure that plan and update submission are accurate and cost savings and negative trends are highlighted
  • Liaise with local management and Corporate Planning departments
  • Provide cost information to management and other departments as required
  • Insurance Review
  • Prepare and submit Revenue/Regulatory returns as required
  • Review and reconciliation of inter-company accounts, involving communication with other business locations worldwide
  • Monthly financial accounting to include preparation and analysis of journals at month end, analysis of month end accounts.
  • Preparation and analysis of balance sheet reconciliations at month end
  • Completion of ad hoc business surveys
  • Projects and continued process improvement initiatives
  • Cover for tax / VAT to include calculation and reconciliation of monthly current tax / deferred tax, preparation and filing of corporate tax returns, completion of quarterly and annual corporate tax packs as required
  • Cover Treasury to include Cash Forecasting, FX Management and reporting, as required.
  • Preparation of the Annual Statutory Accounts for Abbott Ireland to involve liaising with all sites to ensure that all statutory adjustments are identified and processed completely and accurately and notes to the accounts are complete and accurate. 
  • Working with the External Audit team to complete the audit of the Abbott Ireland entity
  • Working with the External Audit team to complete the audit of other Abbott entities as required.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities: 

  • No supervisory duties are associated with this position.

Education Required:

  • Professional qualification in accountancy.

Interpersonal Skills

  • This position reports to Tax Planning & Compliance Manager,
  • High level of contact with all employees in AIMO, therefore he/she needs to be an effective communicator.
  • High level of contact with external agencies.  
  • Ability to deal with all personnel within the plant, across Abbott Ireland plants and with the U.S
  • This position should require very little supervision, as the incumbent should be highly self-sufficient. Has a high degree of freedom to achieve the objectives.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, which is essential given the diversity of problems/people this position must deal with.
    • Ability to:
  • Work with all levels of management
  • Resolve conflict constructively.
  • Seek feedback.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with a flexible and innovative approach to work
  • Self-starter with proven ability to work on own initiative.
  • 5 years experience in industry desirable
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills required.
  • Strong computer skills especially MS Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing accounting systems an advantage
  • SAP experience is desirable
  • Tax Qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Project Management skills desirable

  • Accuracy and timeliness of reporting.  Follow up on weaknesses and opportunities as identified.  Flexibility is required as scope of responsibilities could change to meet changing business needs
