Job description

Tasks:
Research, design innovation, and technology demonstration of electromagnetic and thermal/mechanical aspects of future ABB products including motors, generators, transformers, actuators, or related electromagnetic devices.

Main Accountabilities:

• Create new electromagnetic or thermal features, concepts, and designs for ABB businesses.
• Identify and critically review electromagnetic & thermal innovations and aspects of ABB products.
• Calculate, simulate, design, and analyze motors, generators, transformers, or related electromagnetic devices.
• Collaborate with universities, government and external partners, ABB research centers, and ABB business units.
• Develop and customize laboratory testing facilities & procedures.
• Test & evaluate performance of proof-of-concept and prototype equipment including motors, generators, drives, transformers, and actuators.

Desired profile

Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATION:

• Doctoral Degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or physics or Masters degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or physics with 3 years of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION:

• CAD, hardware prototyping and testing, electrical machine design, transformer design, optimization, project management, experience with rotating equipment, failure analysis, heat transfer analysis, mechanics, and dynamics.
• Prior industry work, postdoc, or internship experience with electric machines, transformers, or related hardware is preferred.
• Modeling and simulation of multi-physics systems, technical writing and presentation.
• Creativity, perseverance, communication, and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.
