Job description

Aquila Air Traffic Management Services is the chosen provider to safely deliver Air Traffic Services including Engineering Service Delivery to the UK Ministry of Defence through a transformational project named Project Marshall. Project Marshall is a major Air Traffic Management (ATM) delivery programme which will deliver a capability upgrade providing the MOD with ATM Services for a period of 22 years.

Purpose of the Role:
Aquila is seeking to recruit a Systems Engineer to undertake system lifecycle activities, including requirements engineering and management, system architecture definition and maintenance, system acceptance, and input to engineering and contract change.

Key Accountabilities

· Provide input to and support for the generation of requirements specifications including requirements capture, decomposition and derivation, and assurance that requirements are verifiable, complete and traceable.
· Define and maintain the system architecture. Develop and maintain system architecture processes and act as Aquila's system architecture champion.
· Provide input to system, sub-system and equipment level verification and validation activities to assure that they define appropriate verification methods and capture suitable acceptance evidence for all requirements.
· Provide input to and support for the definition of the acceptance criteria, acceptance arguments and the capture of acceptance evidence for all requirements (functional and non-functional) at the appropriate point in the system lifecycle.
· Perform or support test activities at required levels of the V model for all technical services and across technical services.
· Support the Aquila Change Management Process, including change impact assessment, creation and evaluation of change options, solution design, engineering input to financial and commercial proposals, generation of change documentation and proposal management.
· Support the Technical Service Manger (Systems) and Service Design Authority in discharging their Safety responsibilities for the Technical Services and associated equipment, including assurance of Technical Service and equipment safety cases, and support for Authority led Safety Case reviews.
· Write and maintain project documentation.
· Provide Technical Advice.
· Support the Risk Management process, including risk identification and mitigation.
· Deliver assigned work packages to the agreed timescale, cost and quality.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities

· Degree in Engineering discipline, equivalent relevant professional qualification or relevant experience gained within an ATM engineering environment.
· Relevant System Engineering experience, preferably within an ATM or Aerospace environment. Experience and knowledge of Navigational Aids, Surveillance, Communications and (ATM) Information systems is desirable.
· Experience and knowledge of Defence and Civil standards and regulations relevant to an ATM environment is desirable.
· Relevant experience of high-integrity real-time systems within large scale, multi-disciplined projects and practical experience of delivering equipment into service, including verification and validation, and acceptance.
· Experience of requirements engineering and management using DOORS.
· Experience of system architecture definition using a recognised architectural framework (preferably MODAF) and software modelling environment (preferably MooD).
· Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail with a logical and structured approach to work
· Strong focus on delivery.
· Innovative in defining solutions and optimising processes and systems.
· Strong customer focus and dedication to team work and exceptional standards of technical delivery.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· The ability to work proactively, within a defined framework, with a minimum of direct supervision highly motivated in the discharge of responsibilities and accountabilities.
