The Role

As the Associate Mechanical Design Engineer at Tesla, you will be responsible for designing and building prototype models to support vehicle occupant packaging and ergonomics development. These could range from individual components to complete vehicle interior mockups. We work fast and efficiently under tight timelines while retaining quality and accuracy. The role will require a high level of collaboration with the design, engineering, and fabrication teams.

The ability to fit into small and highly motivated multi-functional teams is essential. The role offers the rare opportunity to participate in the development of new and genuinely cutting edge vehicles, so enthusiasm and knowledge of cars is advantageous. You must have a genuine passion for engineering the best electric vehicles in the world.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently. He/she must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with external and internal teams at all levels across the company. Typical job duties may include but are not limited to the following:

·  Using Catia V5, create vehicle seating bucks to represent new vehicle design concepts
·  Design components to be fabricated using a variety of methods such as 3D printing, water jet, milling, and hand fabrication.
·  Manage and oversee the fabrication and assembly of components and vehicle models.
·  Design and hand assembly of wood and metal structures through the use of a variety of cutting and drilling tools.
·  Perform assessments of ergonomic criteria against styling and engineering proposals

Desired profile

Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in related field or the equivalent experience in exceptional ability
·  You must have experience with CATIA v5 including:
·  3D Part design
·  Surfacing (Generative Part Design)
·  Managing large data assemblies (Assembly Design)
·  Processing 3D scan data
·  Bringing functional parts to life with Kinematics (Preferred)
·  3-5 years of hands-on Fabrication/Model Making/Woodworking experience
·  Strong ability to maintain attention to detail and multi-task under tight deadlines
·  Must be a team player. No egos allowed.
·  Self-driven and autonomous
