Description
We are looking for a highly-motivated individual to accelerate our vehicle-level testing for autonomous vehicles. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Test Engineer will help drive Tesla’s Autopilot program in two ways: supporting the development team with vehicle-level tuning and testing, and ensuring regulatory compliance of the vehicle in every market. The role requires someone highly organized and confident in their ability to manage projects along a very fluid schedule.
This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 40%) to various domestic and international destinations when necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks and Proving Grounds.
Responsibilities
· Design, develop and validate Tesla test procedures in the areas of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Vehicle Dynamics (Pedestrian Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, or Road Departure Avoidance, for example).
· Work with internal engineering teams and external governing agencies to develop and validate the vehicle performance.
· Lead on & off-site test trips, including management and support of technicians in test vehicle setup and test execution.
· Work with internal and external test labs and proving grounds to direct testing activities.
· Mentor less-experienced engineers to develop their engineering skills and knowledge of ADAS and chassis features.
· Analyze data collected during testing to determine if the vehicle meets federal and internal requirements, and make recommendations to the internal design teams based on findings.
· Write test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues found.
Desired profile
Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent higher education required.
· Several years of vehicle testing experience specifically related to Vehicle Dynamics, Chassis Dynos or Autonomous Vehicles.
· Excellent written and spoken English.
· Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles at (or over) their limit on closed courses.
· Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment.
