An exciting opportunity has arisen in Platform Technologies and Sciences. As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies department, you will use your chemical/process engineering knowledge and expertise to coordinate the development and deployment of innovative technologies to enable the delivery of the portfolio.

This is a highly practical role where you will be working primarily in the R&D laboratories to build technology and process understanding. As the projects advance through development, plant support will also be required across scales, culminating in the transfer of projects and technologies to our commercial manufacturing facilities. The role is fast-paced and dynamic as you will be working in a number of multi-disciplinary project teams. You will thrive in this environment if you are able to effectively manage multiple priorities, communicate your recommendations clearly and enjoy working in teams.

Key job responsibilities:
• Evaluate and industrialise new technologies and ways of working which enhance manufacturing performance
• Deliver process engineering support to development projects as part of a multi-disciplinary technology team
• Provide proactive solutions for the use of digitalisation technologies to enhance manufacturing performance
• Deliver process models, which demonstrate optimised engineering configuration of plant and maximise process potential
• Effectively contribute to the development of end-to-end process understanding and control of the manufacturing process, by integrating broad knowledge of each unit operation.

Desired profile

Basic qualifications:
• BSc, M.Sc. or equivalent in chemical/process engineering with relevant industrial experience in pharmaceuticals / fine chemicals or any continuous process applications.
• A proven track record in at least three of the following technical areas, continuous processing, process development of pharmaceutical unit operation (e.g. reaction, distillation, crystallisation, filtration and drying), process industrialisation and scale up, process simulation (unit ops, kinetic and thermodynamic), process control, application of analytical technologies and regulatory technical submissions.

Preferred qualifications:
• Demonstrated hands-on and practical ability in process development with experience in the application of state-of-the-art engineering equipment or relevant PhD.
• A thorough grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of continuous processing
• An understanding of integration of engineering design with control, automation and business systems
• A proven track record in the design, development and implementation of new processing technologies in a GMP environment.
• Experience in the application of process modelling software, including the use of Matlab, AspenSuite, DynoChem, gProms and/or CFD
• Experience in using 3D design packages to support novel design and fabrication techniques

• A demonstrated ability to handle several projects in different stages of development at the same time, using initiative and imagination to meet agreed objectives and timelines
• Highly effective interpersonal, organisational and communication skills for working in a multi-disciplinary scientific team environment
