The Alexa Support Engineering Team is looking for someone to act as a subject matter expert in systems scalability and performance optimization. The ideal candidate for this role would be innovative and have a track record of managing and supporting systems that are highly secure, highly reliable, highly available, and that function at scale.
A successful Systems Development Engineer does much more than plug computers together or track changes. They are instrumental in deploying, operating, and scaling the full technology stack. They are critical team members in the major projects and programs across the team. The proactively simplify, secure, and automate our systems management.

As a Sr. Systems Dev Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
· Design and implement automated solutions to manage the Alexa team's infrastructure.
· Maintain fleet inventory management, including producing, maintaining, and evolving capacity plans for various components.
· Drive budget management and cost reduction efforts.
· Adapt and improve operations management systems and processes to accommodate rapid and increasing growth in systems and traffic.
· Have a complete understanding of the various system interdependency and limitations.
· Participate in security compliance efforts.
· Analyze service architecture, metrics/thresholds, and make recommendations to maximize system performance.
· Balance systems engineering requests with software development work while still having fun.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· BA/BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.
· 3+ years Systems Engineering/Administration experience in a large, distributed environment focusing on automation.
· Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design and problem solving.
· Scripting or programming experience in Ruby, Python, Java, C/C++, C#, Perl, or other languages.
· A solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including experience with load balancers, switches, routers, etc.
· 2+ years experience with DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP and other common network protocols.
· 2+ years experience writing intermediate level database queries.
