We're looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) that is excited about the opportunity to build a new suite of applications on AWS, for AWS! We're an agile development team based in Seattle, tasked with creating applications that empower internal employees to help AWS customers make better business decisions. Specifically, our team enables thousands of AWS employees to make proactive, data-driven recommendations that lower customer spend on AWS, predict customer migration costs to AWS, encourage customers to utilize relevant AWS programs, and recommend AWS services that meet the technical requirements of customer workloads. We leverage Big Data technologies (EMR, Spark, and Redshift), a suite of highly available backend services, and modern JavaScript web frameworks (React.js and Redux) to build highly interactive and data-driven applications that seamlessly scale across the entire company. As a BIE on the AWS BD Engineering team, you'll work with a team that's fully responsible for every aspect of the software development cycle, including software architectural design, data integration from various internal systems, building backend services for data recommendations, development of highly interactive web applications, software deployment using continuous integration tools, and monitoring to ensure high availability. You will have the exciting opportunity to work with Big Data technologies to build complex analytical models that will seamlessly integrate with custom web applications. Specifically, you will be responsible for deeply understanding source data from various internal/external system, owning the logic for the analytical models, automation of models to produce analytical recommendations, and determine how to best present analytical findings to thousands of internal AWS employees around the globe.

Additionally, the AWS BD Engineering team has full access to every AWS Service and many other powerful, proprietary Amazon tools that improve developer productivity, ultimately leading to more powerful applications. The team works in agile methodology, to ensure we're adding value with each iteration. Success will be defined not only by applications that meet functional business requirements, but applications that can gracefully operate at AWS's ever increasing scale.

The ideal candidate will have a rock-solid background in data analysis using modern technologies (e.g., Python, R, etc.), data warehousing (SQL rockstar, ETL techniques, data modeling, Redshift, etc.), and OLAP reporting (e.g., Tableau, OBIEE, etc.). The candidate should also have experience with a least one modern programming language (Java, Ruby, Python, C++, C#, etc.), a firm understanding of Object-Oriented programming, and common software design patterns. He/she should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to work cross-organizationally.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 2-4 years of experience as a Data Engineer and/or Business Intelligence Engineer
· Background in computer engineering or information systems
· Deep experience in building and leveraging analytical data warehouses (i.e., SQL rock star, dimensional data modeling, experience with ETL, etc.)
· 2+ years of experience with a modern programming language (e.g., Java, Ruby, Python, etc.)
· Ability to distill problem definitions, models, and constraints from informal business requirements
· Ability to deal with ambiguity and competing objectives
· Strong verbal and written communications skills
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal organizations
